This year is the 100th anniversary of the Lions Club International, and, as a community project celebrating the anniversary, the Glasgow-Cedar Grove Lions Club joined with the Herbert J. Thomas Memorial Detachment #947 of the Marine Corps League to enhance two landscaped courtyards with both perennial flower beds and raised gardens at the Glasgow Health and Rehab Center in Glasgow.

“Gardening is one of the healthiest and best activities for people of any age, including seniors,” said Marine Corps League spokesperson Jean Lamb said in a media release. “Gardening activities for the elderly stimulate their senses. Working with plants allows residents of the Glasgow Health and Rehab Center to interact with nature and regain a sense of self and pride. Residents have been getting their hands dirty this week as part of great chance for the nursing home residents to get outside and enjoy the fresh air.”
