Cabin Creek Health Center calling all ‘green thumbs’

The Cabin Creek Health Center is once again planting vegetables for a healthy growing season. Through the generosity of the West Virginia University Center for Excellence in Disabilities, the Cabin Creek Health Center is able to expand its growing capacity this spring with added beds and a new greenhouse.

The plants are in the ground, but the center could use volunteer assistance with maintaining the garden. It has tools, watering cans and gloves available (including special gloves for those with arthritis).

Those who volunteer will be welcome to share in the harvest.

For those interested in joining the Green Thumbs Gang, contact Shannon Carver, clinic manager, or Karen Glazier, care coordinator, at 304-595-5006.

If a long-term gardening commitment is not for you, the health center, along with its gardening partner, the WVU Extension Service, will have a cucumber planting and cucumber recipe preparation workshop at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1.

The event will also include fun activities for children. Lunch will follow at noon.
