BEN CALWELL | Metro Courtney Tackett, a licensed esthetician, adjusts a light in her treatment room at Boho Spa, which recently opened at 1109 B Jefferson Road, South Charleston. Boho Spa offers a range of spa treatments as well as “spa parties” for special occasions.
Tori Malone offers a variety of massage services at the Boho Spa, including Swedish, deep tissue and hot stone massage.

With a range of services designed for relaxation and beauty enhancement, it’s quite possible to enter the Boho Spa in South Charleston and emerge as a new person.

Owned by licensed esthetician Courtney Tackett and licensed massage therapist Tori Malone, the Boho Spa is at 1109 B Jefferson Road. A ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, May 10, marked its official opening.

Tackett, a graduate of the Huntington School of Beauty Culture, and Malone, who graduated from the Everest Instititute in Cross Lanes, have joined forces to provide their clients with an all-encompassing spa experience.

Tackett said that as a licensed esthetician, she can perform a broad range of beauty treatments.

“What I specialize in is natural skin care,” Tackett said. “That’s my favorite thing to do.”

Tackett’s services include facials, makeup, eyelashes, spray tanning, chemical peels, waxing and ear candling, to name just a few. Ear candling, she said, has been around a long time. It’s used to remove wax from the ears.

“It actually pulls wax from the ear. The candles are about a foot long, and they’re tapered on one end. You insert it into the ear, where it creates a vacuum, light the end of it on fire and it pulls the wax from the ear,” she said.

Tackett also formulates her own line of products called Boho Skin Care. They include Honey Lavender Cleanser, Problem Facial Oil Serum, Dry Skin Facial Oil Serum and Oily/Combo Facial Oil Serum.

For her natural skin-care specialty, Tackett is expecting to get a new esthetics device called a “Skin Sheek” machine.

“It’s completely non-invasive. It allows me to treat broken capillaries, spider veins, non-vascular moles, skin tags and things like that with instant results. It’s going to be a game-changer,” Tackett said.

As a massage therapist, Malone offers Swedish, deep tissue and hot stone massages. Essential oils and hot towels are also available.

“I also offer chair massage here,” Malone said.

For her chair massages, Malone’s clients sit in a specially designed chair that has a padded opening in which they can rest their faces during the procedure.

The Boho Spa is pleasantly decorated and has separate rooms for different treatments.

The Boho Spa is also available for “spa parties,” where clients book the space and have Tackett and Malone pamper them with their spa services.

“We want to do spa parties. Bring your friends, food and drink and have a spa party,” Tackett said.

Boho Spa can arrange flexible hours for its spa parties, which Tackett said are great for bridal parties, bachelorette parties and birthday parties.

“It’s great for any occasion,” she said.

Boho Spa is open 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, with additional hours available by request.
